Last night’s FOR meeting, (March 10th), was well attended with several new faces appearing. Since we have several projects on the go, much of the meeting was dedicated to furthering our efforts in these areas.

Please note the next meeting of the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Peace is scheduled for Monday, March 24th, 7pm at the United Church. Please enter by the office door.

Highlights:

Rice for Peace Project Well received by the community. Close to 200 envelopes were given out to people for donations at our tables at the Kootenay Co-op in Nelson, and at both Castlegar and Nelson during events celebrating International Women’s Day. With this Saturday’s March 15th World Peace Rally and March happening, we will be meeting Wed. March 12th at 706 Mill Street in Nelson, from 7-9 pm, to package 500 more Rice For Peace envelopes in order to have them available on Saturday. ANYONE INTERESTED IN HELPING IS MOST WELCOME TO ATTEND! As well, we will be setting up tables with our Rice For Peace Packages at the Co-op on Thursday and Friday this week, 1pm to at least 4pm.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Friends Service Committee (The Quakers) organization is becoming involved in the Canada Rice For Peace campaign. It’s our hope that the Rice for Peace Campaign will continue to grow across the nation and help influence our political leaders. We are attempting to contact MP’s closest to the Prime Minister to draw attention to this campaign during the question period of the House.

Web Site Up and Running! Many, many heart felt thanks to Bonnie for putting together a fabulous web site for us! Besides doing an outstanding job, she spent many volunteer hours doing so. Please let others know of her skills, commitment and contribution.

20 Second FOR Peace Movement Public Service Announcement has been developed and will be reviewed by some of us. If we feel it represents us well, we will be sending it our to area stations for broadcasting in the next few weeks.

Circles of Peace All the schools have been contacted and several have expressed interest. What is needed is contact people in each school who would be willing to take the lead in organizing the students. If anyone receiving this notice is a staff member at any school, please contact Gord at gandrews@netidea.com for further information.

After the War While we hope with all our hearts the war will be averted, plans have been made by the Light for Peace coalition to hold a Peace Rally in front of the Government Building at 12 noon the day after the war starts.

We are setting up a training session on website use for those interested in learning how to do effective research on-line. This will further our efforts to educate ourselves on reliable and unbiased coverage of world events, and to be in touch with other Peace organizations around the world. More on this later!

Please note that another social (dinner) potluck will be held at Isaac's home, on April 4th, 6:30 pm.

Plan on joining us and meet others who are committed to making a difference. We'll have opportunites for friendly sharing and singing together.
