February 24, 2003 Kootenay FOR Meeting Notes
Last night's meeting of the Kootenay chapter of the Fellowship of
Reconciliation and Peace was well attended and much ground was covered.
Notably, several projects were undertaken by various individuals
which will be acted upon immediately:
- A bank account will be opened at the Nelson District Credit
union for any funds raised by our efforts in support of Peace.
- A "Packets of Rice" letter writing campaign will be
organized for the local area, with the intention of eventually
spreading the project across Canada.
- By invitation, we will be submitting an article for inclusion
in the international publication of the F.O.R. magazine on the
first Canadian Chapter of FOR...... us!
Schools and other organizations will be contacted to implement
"Circle of Peace" demonstrations
- There will be research done on how to tap into public service
announcements on radio and TV with the intent of developing 30
sec. messages in support of peace.
- Further research will be done on Canadian businesses which produce
materials used by the military. Some consideration of organizing
a boycott of these business will be discussed at the next meeting.
These are just some of the highlights of the meeting. Complete
minutes will be available at the next meeting.
