Jewish Leader and Muslim Leader to Visit
Castlegar and Nelson
Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb and Abdul Rauf will be speaking at the Brilliant
Cultural Center near Castlegar on Friday, May 7th and leading an
interfaith service and peace walk in Nelson on Saturday, May 8th.
They are both known internationally for their commitment to interfaith
peace building and to a just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict. They are inspiring a growing movement of Jewish-Muslim
peace action based on shared faith traditions of compassion, justice
and reconciliation.
Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb is one of the first ten women to become a rabbi
in Jewish history and is internationally known for her work. She
is a kabbalist and storyteller, Klezmer dancer and drummer, author
and ritual artist, and human rights activist committed to interfaith
peace building and a just solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
Rabbi Gottlieb is the spiritual leader of Nahalat Shalom of Albuquerque,
New Mexico.
Abdul Rauf Campos Marquetti is a Muslim peace activist committed
to interfaith peace building and a just solution to the Israeli
Palestinian conflict. He currently serves as General Secretary of
the Islamic Center of New Mexico and is a senior scientist at EnerQuest
System of Albuquerque. He is an accomplished African drummer.

This event will include Muslim and Jewish music and storytelling
performances, and is dedicated to restoring the long-standing connections
between Jews and Muslims as well as illuminating a path to reconciliation.
This moving and inspiring event is by donation.Welcoming Rabbi Lynn
Gottlieb and Abdul Rauf Campos Marquetti to our community will be
a Doukhobor Choir, John J. Verigen Jr. for the Doukhobor USCC, Marilyn
James, spokesperson for the Sinixt Nation and Jessica Manley for
the Kootenay Jewish Peace Fellowship and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
Joining with Rabbi Gottlieb and Abdul Rauf will be Dr. Duncan Grady.
Dr. Gradys heritage is Siksika/Sac and Scottish. Dr. Grady
will play the flute and tell a traditional story of reconciliation.

Rauf Campos Marquetti, who will explore the Jewish and Muslim texts
dealing with peace building.

Lynn and Abdul Rauf will lead a peace walk, and, instead of political
signs, people will carry a Middle East symbol for peace called a
Hamsa (The Hamsa is a peace sign used by all faiths represented
in the Middle East). Please bring water for drinking during the
peace walk.
