Join our Rice for Peace Campaign

Origin of the Idea in 1954

The Kootenay Fellowship of Reconciliation (Kootenay FOR) is excited this campaign is establishing itself here in Canada, and urges people to send rice to Prime Minister Jean Chretien to show that the hungry Iraqi people are not our enemy and that bombs will not address the root causes of conflict. Kootenay FOR is providing the necessary instructions for safe, free transit of Rice For Peace mailings you can prepare and send to the Prime Minister. Click on the link above for mailing instructions.

The Fellowship of Reconciliation, founded in 1914 in Europe and with branches in forty countries, is the oldest and largest interfaith pacifist peace organization in the world.

The FOR is interfaith, including The Buddhist Peace Fellowship, The Jewish Peace Fellowship, The Muslim Peace Fellowship, The Catholic Peace Fellowship, The Methodist Peace Fellowship, The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, The Unitarian Peace Fellowship, more than 20 other Christian Peace Fellowships, and with many humanist/atheist members as well, committed to a peaceful and just world in the tradition of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hebron: Rollins still in prison -- opportunity to contact Israeli Interior Minister
Faxes, e-mails, still needed

As of 8 pm Monday (12:00 noon Chicago time) Greg Rollins is still in Ramle Prison. On Tuesday, he will appear at the Ramle Magistrate's court. The government may discuss terms for his release, because the Israeli government has still pressed no charges after holding him for eight days. Alternatively, the military may decide to press charges, and might even ask the judge to deport Rollins immediately. Our lawyer is doing his best to prepare for all possibilities.

CPT appreciates the faxes and e-mails that you have sent in response to Rollins' arrest. We are asking for still more messages to Interior Minister Avraham Poraz, because Rollins' arrest ties into larger issues of the Israeli government's harassment, deportation and murders of international human rights monitors.

Note in your messages that nonviolent international human rights-monitoring presence in Occupied Territories is something that any democratic government should welcome as part of a structure that protects civil rights. Tell Poraz that you and the rest of the world will respect Israel more if it affirms the right of nonviolent observers to report what they see happening in the West Bank and Gaza.

Faxes are the most effective means of communication. Poraz's fax number (from North America) is 011-972-2-566-6376. E-mail for the Minister of the Interior is sar@moin.gov.il or
aporaz@knesset.gov.il

The Campaign for Secure Dwellings is a network of congregations in North America working to end the Israeli military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Christian Peacemaker Teams coordinates the Campaign for Secure Dwellings in cooperation with the Palestinian Land Defense Committee, Rabbis for Human Rights, and the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions. Christian Peacemaker Teams (www.cpt.org) is a ministry of active peacemaking initiated by Mennonites, Brethren and Quakers with broad ecumenical participation.
