Relief Kits to Send to Iraq
Relief kits (for a family of four)
Relief kits are a favorite item of request in disasters. They have
been shipped to Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras,
Iraq, Kosovo, Nicaragua, Serbia, Russia, and West Bank. In the past
7 years over 160,000 have been sent.
Contents: (NEW items only)
- 4 bars bath soap
- 1 plastic bottle shampoo (450-830 ml / 13-24 oz; place in plastic
bag)
- 10 cups of powdered laundry detergent (Double bag in 4 liter
/ 1 gallon re-sealable plastic bags)
- 1 squeeze-tube toothpaste (minimum 100 ml / 6 oz)
- 4 adult-size toothbrushes (leave in packaging)
- 4 bath towels (medium weight, dark color)
- 1 hairbrush
- 1 wide-tooth comb
- 1 fingernail clipper
- 1 box adhesive bandages (minimum 40, assorted)
- 1 package sanitary pads (18-24 thin maxi or ultra thin)
Please place contents in an unsealed box and drop them off at
the Nelson United Church office (corner of Silica & Josephine
Streets) by May 23. Please come by during office hours, 9:00 a.m.
to noon.
The Kootenay Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) is providing assistance
for this project. FOR, founded in 1914, with members and chapters
in 42 countries is an interfaith organization committed to active
nonviolence as a transforming way of life and as a means of radical
change. The FOR includes The Buddhist Peace Fellowship, The Jewish
Peace Fellowship, The Muslim Peace Fellowship, more than 20 other
Christian Peace Fellowships, and many humanist/atheist members committed
to a peaceful and just world in the tradition of Gandhi and Martin
Luther King, Jr.
